Prof. Herculano de Carvalho Secondary School is a school building complex belonging to the third period of school construction in Portugal.
The new intervention was aimed at remodelling the existing facilities in terms of reorganising the room division, upgrading interior floor and wall coverings and complete renovation of the electrical, telecommunications and water and wastewater networks
The work concentrated on upgrading and extending the existing buildings, with a new block being added.
The main body of the existing building was extended following the spatial logic of the metrics of the building, with the indoor sports spaces also being extended.
The exterior spaces were also remodelled, with three distinct zones being defined by the new design: the entrance zone, a small open-air games field area and a large area dedicated to sports featuring an athletics track.
