ESCOLA SECUNDÁRIA MARQUES DE CASTILHO

The intervention in Marques Castilho Secondary School in Águeda is based on the extension of the already existing buildings so as to interconnect the three bodies while increasing teaching space, particularly in the areas of the arts, laboratories and workshops.

Thanks to the construction of a new building, also three storeys in height, the exterior image of the school was renewed, giving it a stronger presence in the square in front and, accordingly, in the town. The new building houses the administrative services, teachers’ rooms, school management, laboratories, New Opportunities Centre and the library, the latter having a location that facilitates access to and from the exterior.

The extension of the existing buildings allowed for the creation of two patios: an interior patio, with direct access to the entrance atrium, on to which the social spaces such as the canteen/students’ room, multipurpose hall, school shop, students’ association open, and a second patio in which the open-air all-purpose sports arena and the changing room block are located.
